As a student in the gifted education certificate program, you will gain an understanding of the theory and pedagogy needed to identify and serve gifted children. You will acquire skills to develop current instructional methods and services for these students, as well as how to create gifted education programs based on the needs of students and their school districts. You will learn how to work with administrations, school boards and parents and learn how to be an advocate for gifted students in their schools.
The program is ideal for public or private teachers in honors classrooms and those who want to gain new skills to increase their marketability, as well as administrators focused on becoming gifted coordinators.
This 15-credit hour certificate program consists of 5 classes. The graduate certificate can be completed within a two-year period while concurrently pursuing an online graduate degree or as a stand-alone certificate. A Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction: Gifted Education is also available. The program provides the 12 semester hours of coursework in gifted education required for the gifted education (K-12) endorsement from the Arizona Department of Education. Students should refer to the Arizona Department of Education website for additional requirements.
Applicants must fulfill the requirements of both the Graduate College and the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.
